November sees increasingly dark evenings after the return to GMT with the clocks changed at the end of October. This reminds us of those whose work is in the open and for whom dark, cold and wet conditions bring extra risk.

The theme of our prayers is therefore safety in the workplace, and especially those working outdoors – drivers, transport and emergency workers and in construction, amongst others. Dick Johnson, Faith at Work in Worcestershire Development Officer is also Lead chaplain for West Mercia Police and Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, and works with volunteer police and fire chaplains across Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford, as well as Worcestershire. We include this chaplaincy work as part of our focus this month

Heavenly Father look with compassion on all those whose work is made more dangerous by the increasingly dark, wet and cold conditions we face at this time of the year.

We pray for all at risk through their work, those working in the open and all who suffer when the weather is bad.

We give thanks for the dedication and experience of those who are prepared to face danger in order to keep others safe, and ask your protection and care for all who feel anxious and vulnerable.

Through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord.

Amen

Especially we pray for:

  • All whose work is outside in the dark, cold and wet weather of winter, for safety and protection.
  • Emergency services – police, fire and ambulance – and those who serve them as chaplains.
  • The continuing follow up of contacts made at the Chamber of Commerce Business Expo in October with the hope to develop new chaplaincy.
  • For all at risk of debt through pressure on personal finances at this time of high inflation.
  • Peace in Ukraine, and between nations caught up in economic conflict.
  • FWW Chaplains: In our cycle of prayer this month we pray for our chaplains in Kidderminster, Barbara Pugh, Albert Wilkinson, Shaun Armstrong, Mick Sayner and Chris Henson, as he completes a placement with FWW.
  • FWW Trustees:  This month for those trustees who are co-opted – Roy Walford (secretary) and Robin Gilbert (treasurer), especially for Robin as he completes his time as a trustee and hands over responsibility to others.
